I love teaching real estate agents and other sales professionals about business planning. I have three suggestions for creating awesome and inspiring and achievable real estate business plans. The three pieces of advice can be shared by remembering: VDS (visualize, detail and share).

Tips for a Successful Business Plan: Visualizing

My first piece of advice (we have heard this before) is to start with your end goal in mind.
We can’t develop a plan if we don’t have a vision for what success will look like. The more specific and measurable the better. Next, when you create your goal, push yourself to double or triple it. Make your Goal HUGE! Make it awesome and if it doesn’t scare you – it’s not big enough!!

Tips for a Successful Business Plan: Detail

If the “devil is in the details”, then chase the devil with all you have!!!! Work hard to “drill down” on the details. Obviously the more detailed and spelled out your action plans are to meet and exceed your goals – the better. Create systems around your most valuable asset: your time.
Everyone has the same amount of time, but how people manage their time is the difference between meeting your goals OR exceeding your goals. There are agents who do “ok” and there are agents who are doing unbelievable! The difference between the two is simply based around the 80/20 rule of time management.

Tips for a Successful Business Plan: Share

Lastly, if you are truly serious about meeting and exceeding your goals, the most vital step in this process is SHARING your plan. Accountability is a term most agents need to embrace! Share your plan with your manager or coach. An accountability partner will help keep you on the path of truly attaining your goals. A plan not shared, in my opinion, is not likely to be successful. Sharing your business plan with someone drastically increases your odds of success.
